Minna – The Universal Peace
Federation (UPF), UN Organisation, said on Saturday that it would not be in the
interest of Nigerians for country to disintegrate as being clamoured by some
people. The Secretary General, UPF, Dr Raphael Ojo, made the remark at the
presentation of the 2016 award of “Ambassador for Peace,’’ to Rev. Fr.
Christian Achinivu in Minna. The award was jointly presented by the UPF and the
Muslim Interreligious Peace Foundation to Achinivu, who is the Spiritual
Director, Calvary Hill Ministries in Paiko, Niger.
“No part of Nigeria can stand alone and remain
relevant among the comity of civilised and developed nations. “For example the
United States of America derives its strength from its size and population as
well as its human resources,’’ he said. Ojo enjoined governments at all levels
and the people of the country to do everything possible to keep Nigeria one. He
advised government at all levels to do everything possible to tackle the
grievances of aggrieved segments of the country. The UPF Secretary General
suggested that the Federal Government should set up Development Commissions in
all the geo-political zones of the country as is being done for the North East
region which was ravaged by the activities of insurgents. According to him,
“these commissions should be well empowered financially to the level that they
will address the shortcomings in all the zones of the country.
“The policy will bring the much
desired peace and development to Nigeria.’’ He, however, said that the
recipient of the award was found worthy in deeds and character, and ready to
live his life for the sake of others hence the decision to honour him. The
Catholic Bishop of Minna Diocese, Most Rev. Dr. Martin Uzoukwu, commended the
recipient’s spirit and hard work as well as devotion to the service and
humanity, and urged him not to relent. Responding, Achinivu expressed gratitude
to God for counting him worthy for such award and pledged to continue to devote his life to the service of mankind.
