Members of the Board of Trustees (BoT) of
the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday threw their weight behind
the deputy Senate president, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, saying he should
not be roped into the Senate rules forgery scandal.
Ekweremadu is standing trial alongside the Senate president, Bukola Saraki, and two others, over forging of the Senate rules.

Leading members of the BoT to the Senate,
its chairman, Senator Walid Jibril, said the image of Ekweremadu should
not be tarnished.
“Ekweremadu is a man of integrity with track records. We will give him all the necessary support. Nobody should tarnish his good image. We are not here to preempt the decision of the court, we are calling for fair hearing,” he said.
Jibril, who said the emergence of Ekweremadu as the deputy Senate president was a good omen for democracy, said no attempt should be made to edge him out.
“Ekweremadu should be left alone to perform his duties. Our PDP senators will continue to support the government of the day for good governance. Any attempt to remove Ekweremadu will not augur well for democracy,” he said.
Ekweremadu thanked the BoT members for their support, adding that, “No meaningful father will watch his son being persecuted.”
Members of the BoT that attended the meeting included a former Senate president, Adolphus Wabara, a former deputy Senate president, Ibrahim Nasiru Mantu, a former national chairman of the PDP, Vincent Obulafor and Ambassador Aminu Wali.
