Lagos/Awka – The Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB)
on Thursday accused the nation’s security forces, especially the
Department of State Services (DSS), of plotting to eliminate forty-six
of its members, including Mrs. Uchechi Okwu Kanu, wife of its detained
leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Comrade Emma Powerful, IPOB Media and Publicity Secretary, in a statement made available to Independent,
decried what he termed the “hunting” of these members and seven others
by placing them on wanted list for the purpose of elimination, knowing
full well that they are innocent and reside abroad.
Apart from Mrs. Kanu, who was said to be nursing a baby in London,
others include Sunday Onyekachi, Ogechukwu Obiorah, Ann Okafor, Amaechi
Sunday Kanu (who lives in Sheffield, UK), Dickson Ekene, Ndidi Ojukwu,
Emma Powerful, Emma Nmezu and Sidney Okoli (who lives in Mollorca,
Spain).
Others are Andy Obeche, Ifriam Ezeiwu, Chukwuemeka Mfon, Ikenna
Sunday Egono, Chijioke Ekwueme, Godwin Osinachi, Udoka Amarachi (who
resides in Dortmund, Germany), Uche Martin Doludo, Nduka Enuma, Ambrose
Ero, Clifford Mbamere, Andy Obina Okafor, Stephen Oko (who lives in the
United Kingdom) and Onyeka Joseph.
Also on the list, which IPOB said was sighted at the DSS headquarters
in Abuja, are Eric, Dike Benson, Uche Emmanuel Uche, Udoka Okechukwu
David, Martins (who lives in Austria), Michael Chidi Okafor, Daniel
Ifeanyi (who lives in the United States), Roland Abumere, Kenneth Uche
Opara, Emenike Anyanwu, Obinwanne Markson Chukwujekwu, Chukwu I Ojiugo-,
Ezinwanne Mba, and Jeff Amechi as well as seven others, who it said
their names were blurred.
IPOB lamented that the Federal Government and DSS had been trailing
and targeting its unarmed members for elimination, alleging that armed
Fulani herdsmen, who had been killing, maiming and terrorisng innocent
Nigerians, had been left to carry out their nefarious activities
unmolested.
The organisation called on the international community, rights
groups, including Amnesty International (AI), as well as America,
Russia, France, Germany, China, Japan and Israeli governments to come to
its members’ rescue.
It also said that these “countries of the world who love freedom,
Human Right Watch, the Christian community, all lovers of freedom and
the United Nations (UN) should come to our rescue because the Nigerian
government and security agents have perfected arrangements to kidnap and
kill unarmed civilians who committed no crime against the government of
Nigeria and humanity.”
It urged “all the lovers of freedom” to warn DSS to desist from its
act of intimidation and harassment in Nigeria “because we are a
non-violent group that is determined to achieve our sovereign state
through non-violence.”
IPOB, a pro-Biafra movement, headed by detained Kanu, who pioneered
the Radio Biafra, had been agitating for the sovereign state of Biafra.
It recently carried out peaceful protests in parts of South East and
South South states, demanding the release of Kanu as well as the
actualisation of the sovereign state of Biafra.
At a point, the intervention of security agents during the protests
led to shootings which led to the death of several people, while many
were injured.
IPOB claimed to be seeking for a Biafra nation, a demand which led to
the protracted 30-month civil war, which claimed a lot of lives.
Prior to the emergence of IPOB, other groups, especially the Movement
of the Sovereign State of Biafra (MASSOB) led by Ralph Uwazuruike, had
over the years, been agitating for the actualisation of the Biafra
dream, which the renowned late Igbo leader and ex-soldier, Chukwuemeka
Odumegwu Ojukwu, fought for, but could not realise. source:independentnig
