Amnesty: FG Resumes Payment of Niger delta Ex-Agitators’ Allowances on Monday

The Special Adviser to the President on Niger Delta/Coordinator of the Presidential Amnesty Programme, Brig-Gen. Paul Boroh (rtd.), on Sunday assured ex-agitators of the Niger Delta region that payment of their stipends would continue this Monday. The assurance for the payment of the stipends was given in a statement signed by  Piriye Kiyaramo of the Media and Communication Department of the Amnesty and made available to journalists in Akure.

Kiyaramo rounded was in Akure, Ondo State capital where he met with journalists on the vision of the government for the Amnesty Programme. Sequel to the assurance of the payment, Boroh  appealed to the
ex-agitators in the region to shelve the planned protests scheduled for today (Monday) over the delayed in payment of their allowances. The coordinator, who expressed concern over the plight of the
ex-agitators in respect of their delayed stipends, maintained that President Muhammandu Buhari, appreciates their patience, adding that the hiccups in the payment of their stipends are already being
addressed.

He said  Buhari attaches so much importance to the Amnesty Programme, which explains why the President in his inaugural address to the nation specifically promised “to invest heavily in the projects, and programmes currently in place for the ex-agitators in the region”.

The Coordinator  who commended the ex-agitators and the people of the Niger Delta for their cooperation, reiterated the commitment of the Federal Government in making the amnesty programme to run better for the benefit of the 30, 000 ex-agitators and other youth in the region. Gen. Boroh (Rtd) further noted that President Muhammandu Buhari, is already putting together a youth development and empowerment package that would directly impact the ex-agatators and other youth in the region. He said protests along major roads would not be the solution as such protests could be hijacked by hoodlums who will use the occasion to disrupt public peace in the affected areas in the region.
