The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) is to carryout
major changes in key positions in the corporation and its affiliates
Frontiersnews can confirm.
The planned shake up, which a source in the oil and gas sector
described as “tsunami” and “earth shaking” is coming on the heels of the
exit of Kachikwu who was until recently the GMD of the corporation.
A top industry source who spoke to our correspondent, on the
condition of anonymity said the appointment of Mr. Maikanti Baru as the
corporation’s group managing director (GMD) “is to rejig the NNPC
organogram which was dismantled by Kachikwu and bring about efficiency
in the day-to-day running of the NNPC as well as to bring about
transparency in crude oil and gas allocation”.
Our correspondent gathered that beside the dismantling of the
numerous consultants assembled by the former GMD to manage the nation’s
crude oil and gas allocations in the last couple of months, there would
also be a complete overhaul of the top management of the NNPC and its
affiliates with a view to injecting fresh blood into the system.
The source said the hammer would fall on those who were brought
through the back door, those who are unqualified to head departments and
units, those who have worked to sabotage the effective running of the
corporation in the last years as well as those who are unfit to work in
the sector.
“There is no magic in the world that would make Baru succeed if he
fails to overhaul the NNPC the way it is right now. People Kachikwu and
former minister of petroleum resources Diezianni Allison-Madueke brought
to the corporation who are occupying positions that they don’t deserve
would have to go and those who came through the back doors would have to
be eased out of the system too,” the source stated.
