No fewer than 198 Nigerian Catholic young men and women will be part of
the World Youth Day which will be held in Krakow, Poland from July 25th
to August 1st, 2016.
World Youth Day (WYD) is a worldwide encounter with the Pope which is
typically celebrated every three years in a different country. The last
WYD was celebrated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil from July 23rd to 28th,
2013.
The Director of Social Communications, Catholic Secretariat of
Nigeria, Rev. Father Christian Anyanwu, told our correspondent that 198
Nigerian Catholic youths will be part of history in Krakow, Poland.
The cleric disclosed that participants were selected from all the 55 Dioceses in Nigeria.
On the criteria for selection, the Clergy said the church rewards some
active youths with such trip, as most of them are sponsored by their
dioceses.
When asked to comment on the issuance of visa, Father Anyanwu said,
there was no stress at all for any of the participants, as the Catholic
Church in Nigeria has connection with the Polish Mission.
“All participants’ document were duly signed by Rev. Father Zacharia
Samjumi who is the appointed visa coordinator for WYD 2016 in Nigeria,
as such, there is automatic clearance.”
The contingent will depart from Lagos on Wednesday July 20 on Qatar Airways.
