Two friends, Yahaya Umar and Abubakar Saletu, are now in police
custody in Kwara State for allegedly beheading their mutual friend. Umar
and Saletu, who were paraded yesterday at the state Police Command
Headquarters in Ilorin, reportedly attempted to sell the head to an
Alhaji.
This came as a suspect, Abdullahi Adamu, allegedly murdered his
65-year-old mother Khadijat Usman and his elder brother’s wife, Ramatu
Shagari (35), after he had killed their cow without provocation.
The state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Olusola Amore, who paraded the
suspects, said Umar and Saletu committed the offence on August 8 at Wobe
Fulani Camp, via Okuta in Baruten Local Government Area of the state.
Amore said the suspects lured their victim into an isolated area where
they killed him and decapitated him.
They put the head in a bag and went to a man identified as Alhaji
Kuranga to find out if he would buy their ‘product’. Kuranga, according
to the police boss, refused the offer.
The commissioner said the suspects were later arrested in possession
of the head by a team of policemen. They led investigators to the site
where they buried their friend, who had earlier been declared missing.
Amore warned residents on the need to keep people informed about
their movements with friends. “Use your medium to tell people that if
they have friends and they are going somewhere, they should inform
people close to them,” he urged journalists.
The police chief expressed reservations about the state of Adamu’s
mental health. According to him, the suspect killed his victims at
Patigi in Patigi Local Government Area of the state on August 13. In
another development, Amore said the command also apprehended a suspected
kidnapper, Issa Nurudeen, operating on Ilorin- Offa Road.
According to the police boss, when the suspect was arrested, he was
found with various charms which he allegedly confessed were given to him
by his father to help him escape gunshot and arrest by the police.
