There
appears to be more trouble for a 30-year-old trader, who named his pet
dog ‘Buhari,’ as the Ogun State Police Command Friday vowed to arraign
him in court on Monday.
The
embattled trader, Joe Fortemose Chinakwe, has been rearrested and is
now under detention at the state police headquarters, Eleweran,
Abeokuta.
The
state’s acting Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said
in an interview with reporters Friday that Chinakwe’s action was capable
of fuelling ethnic crisis if not well-managed.
Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, said the suspect would be charged for conduct likely to cause breach of peace.
It
will be recalled that the trader was arrested last Saturday after one
of his neighbours of Northern extraction complained that he named his
pet dog ‘Buhari.’
The suspect was later let off the hook after spending three days in police custody at Sango-Ota.
But
the police spokesman said the suspect had confessed in his statement
that he named his pet dog ‘Buhari’ and had the name written on the body
of both sides of the animal.
